    Speaking in Nairobi today during the unveiling of new technology products from SAMCEN, Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i attributed the Sh.280 billion to the increased availability of broad band in the country facilitating growth and innovations in the ICT sector and increased productivity in the economy.

    Matiang’I in a statement reads on his behalf by Senior Deputy Secretary Mary Ngugi revealed that the implementation of the (NOFBI) has seen the connection of fiber to 34 Counties as a result impacting positively on the living standards of Kenyan citizens.
He further added that the government is continuously implementing the National ICT infrastructure to improve connectivity and availability of Broad band in all the 47 Counties.

    “In order to improve and advance the usage of ICT, the government has continued to play a central role towards this through proactive policy interventions as well as strategic investments in infrastructure roll-out,” said Matiang’i

    He further stated that the use of ICT has come with inherent security threats, adding that Cybercrimes such as financial fraud or deliberate damage of critical information infrastructure can have a devastating effect.

    Matiang’i noted that a case of terrorists’ attacks on Kenya is a wake- up call together with other forms of security.

    “To address some of the inherent gaps in Information Security the government has developed the National Cyber Security Strategy,” he said

    He added that the strategy will provide the government with a national-level plan to secure its digital infrastructure.

    Matiang’i lauded SAMCEN for their innovative initiatives they have undertaken in developing the new advanced products
